Blog mostly about action figures, video games and a few art books that I have found while high & suckling on the sweet teet of the internet. A shitty collection of everything i think is cool with links so you can all go buy the shit i cant

METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER - THE BOSS (VGM 14)
HOT TOYS VIDEOGAME MASTERPIECE SERIES SIXTH SCALE ACTION FIGURE

Also up for pre-order on Sideshow & Forbidden Planet for $214.99 and £164.99 is the VGM14 Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - The Boss 1:6 scale Action Figure from the Hot Toys Videogame Masterpiece Series

The Boss, also known as The Joy, Voyevoda (Russian for Warlord) and generally acknowledged as the mother of special forces. She is the Traitor/Heroin of the PS2 game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

She was Snakes mentor, they together developed the CQC technique used in Metal Gear Solid 3. She was also the founding member of the COBRA unit, in which she was known as The Joy. They were disbanded at the end of WWII, then she was awarded the codename The Boss

The Boss looks great, very accurate to the game although her jaw does look a lot wider, hopefully something HT will notice and change before the production begins, the sneaking suit looks more of a silver in the game than white too.

Featuring Hot Toys’ True-Type figure body with over 28 points of articulation it’s fully posable and stands at 12 inches tall

The Boss is wearing an unzipped white with silver detail sneaking suit with straps and boots, as seen in the later stages of the game and sporting a S shaped scar on her chest. Personally i would display her with the suit done up, never was into that Japanese obsession with sex, she’s a warlord i doubt she’s bothered about how the chebs are looking.. although i could be wrong. Also included is the black Hooded Cape The Boss is seen wearing in the game, only small but it’s these little extras that really give the figure character

3 pairs of interchangeable hands, 1 Davy Crockett Launcher with case and a Warhead with case. The Patriot machine gun, CQC knife with magnet and is finished off with the stand with The Boss nameplate and MGS3 logo

He’s wearing the sneaking suit and features the bandana (standard) and the eye patch he gets when volgin tortures him and fucks his eye up. Strap harness with pouches, back pack and water canteen with carrier also on the waist. Black boots with tapes to hold the knife steady and 3 pairs of interchangeable hands for holding the weapons and accessories

TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY - T-800 (MMS 117)
HOT TOYS MOVIE MASTERPIECE SERIES SIXTH SCALE ACTION FIGURE

Here is the first Terminator 2 T-800 released in January 2010 from Hot Toys as part of their Movie Masterpiece Series. Featuring over 30 points of articulation, the HT muscular body (bare in mind some flexibility is restricted, it comes with a manual) and a good likeness to Arnie, it’s a lot better than the one they have used for the new DX figure. The dutch head is still the best for likeness i’ve seen so far. The Enterbay 1:4 scale HD Masterpiece  T2 T-800 is pretty impressive too

He comes dressed in movie authentic clobber, black shades, grey t-shirt, black boots, black faux leather trousers & a faux leather jacket which is fully detailed - the zippers work &  are made to scale. It has 3 pairs of interchangeable hands & the very cool bloody endoskeleton arm, the coolest feature on this figure by far. The bases rotates & the hand has articulated fingers

The weapons are the M1911A1 handgun he takes from the biker dude in the sick bar scene at the beginning, i suppose the clothes are really his too. The second weapon is the sawed off Winchester 1887 shotgun & the rose box with roses. Arnie uses the rose box to hide the shotty in while he’s walking round the mall looking for John Conner. All topped off with a nice figure base with T-800 nameplate and movie logo

I’m not ashamed t say this film has made me cry both tears of fear & sadness within a short amount of time. The first is when Arnie rips his skin off his arm at Dysons place, then at the end when he’s lowered into the steel & he gives the thumbs up, heartbreaking man. My favourite film ever probably, so for me this is one of the coolest figure ever. Too bad i missed it

Picked up on eBay HERE for about £250-£350

All weed need now is a battle damaged version :3

TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY - T-800 (DX 10)
HOT TOYS DELUXE SERIES SIXTH SCALE ACTION FIGURE

1:6th scale & standing 12.5” Tall it is due for release in October 2102. Pre-order price on Sideshow is $229.99 with the choice of payment in full or a payment plan, for as little as $46.00/month

Unfortunately no payment plan option here though. You can also purchase it from onesixthbruce.co.uk for £149.99. They have a payment option called layaway pre-order which basically means you pay a £60 deposit + shipping costs then the outstanding balance once the delivery date/time is confirmed

So first of all what’s difference between this DX10 release and the original MMS117?

Well the DX versions comes with Hots Toys patented Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS). Detachable scalp with removable chip inside the head & Pincers. Improved muscular body for increased flexibility. Authentic leather jacket & pants. Grenade Launcher & Bandolier, Mini-Gun with carry bag & a hexagonal LED light up stand

Collectors have been voicing there opinions on the HT Facebook & Blog. The general word on the street is not good, people are pissed & to be honest i can see where they are coming from. This is supposed to be a ‘deluxe’ figure so the price has been bumped up & generally it is supposed to be of a higher quality than the Movie Masterpiece Series. The DX series will have more accessories, weapons, features etc..

From what i can see there are a few obvious let downs on the DX version, the head sculpt has not been improved even though they have included the PERS. It includes some new weapons & accessories sure but is missing some that the MMS 117 figure came with - the iconic rose box that Arnie carries the shotgun around in the mall scene & the alternate endoskeleton arm

The biggest let down though & what most fans are crying about is the Battle Damaged Head, or lack of. The MMS 117 figure didn’t feature an interchangeable battle damaged head & unfortunately neither has the DX. Bare in mind these 2 are the only Terminator figures that haven’t featured the extra battle damaged head. you’d have thought that being released as a DX figure they would have put a bit more thought into this figure, i mean it’s cool & everything but it doesn’t warrant the DX name nevermind the price. The first thing on the HT list should have been the battle damaged head. They should have added everything the original had + the extra items they have included. This is the only way it would have made fans happy & make them want to shell out (again) for a T2: T-800 figure

If your like me & you didn’t purchase the original then this probably won’t be a big deal. Sure there are disappointing points to the figure but that shouldn’t put you off. It’s still sick & there are plenty of accessories

It features PERS, Real Leather Jacket & Trousers. Grey T-Shirt & Black Boots. Detachable scalp & cyberdyne chip in the head & the pincers to remove it. Mini Gun with carry Bag, Grenade Launcher with Bandolier, Shotgun, & Handgun. 4 pairs of interchangeable hands, Sunglasses & LED light up figure stand (battery operated)

The 2 items not included in the DX version - the rose box with 6 roses & the endoskeleton arm variant can be picked up from eBay so not all is lost & it’s still cheaper than picking up the MMS117 from the second hand market so you still gonna be quids in & have a sick figure. It’s just a shame HT didn’t reach the potential this figure has :(

METAL GEAR SOLID - METAL GEAR REX
THREEA TOYS 1:48 SCALE REPLICA TOY

Up for Pre-Order HERE on the Sideshow Collectibles website is the highly anticipated & mega cool Metal Gear Solid REX figure from ThreeA Toys, which incidentally is the studio co-founded by artist Ashley Wood, who has contributed artwork to Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Peace Walker & illustrated the Metal Gear Solid Digital Graphic Novel

In collaboration with Team Kojima & Konami, this masterpiece is fully articulated & features a 23-inch long detachable rail & light up components, Including the rail gun. It was designed to have the same beat-up appearance it does in the videogame & with it measuring 19” tall when standing & 14” tall in sitting position it’s a massive bastard. Holding the toy is Metal Gear artist Yoji Shinkawa, so you can get a sense of how big the bastard really is

Pre-order price is a small amount really.. $490. No biggie. While i know $490 sounds like a lot & it is but your not really buying a figure, your buying a piece of moveable art that been 2 years in the making. Your probably never going to be able something like this again, It’s a one of a kind in a way

There are limited numbers made so if you miss out on this now the second hand market price is going to be anywhere between $1000-$1500

Anyway don’t worry about the price just bask in the awesomeness of what surely is the coolest toy ever created

PREDATOR - PRIVATE BILLY SOLE (MMS 73)
HOT TOYS MOVIE MASTERPIECE SERIES SIXTH SCALE ACTION FIGURE

After already posting the Hot Toys 1:6 Scale PredatorDutch figures, i figured it was only right to finish off the series with the MMS73 1:6 scale 12 inch figure Private Billy Sole

One reason why i am posting the whole set of Hot Toys Predator figures (apart from them being ace) is that i have a friend that has NEVER seen Predator before, mad init?! That in turn got me thinking as to how/why he hasn’t & more importantly can we even be friends now i know this? bare in mind this film was released the year before i was born. It’s been around for longer than i have & we are pretty good mates now… anyway after finding that out (which i think is a serious blow to any man) it made me feel compelled to do the whole set in homage to the 1987 classic. I know, cool story bro

Carrying on.. Released in January 2009, Private Billy Sole is one of 3 figures taken from the 1987 film Predator. Part of the almighty Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series this 1:6 Scale 12 Inch tall figure features 21 points of articulation & like Dutch, comes with the muscular body & instruction manual showing you how far you can go with posing the figure before it’s gonna break. Why would they do this? I didn’t go into too much detail on the Dutch post about it but basically because of the type of body they used for these figures they purposely have less articulation than the standard True-Type figure body usually used. By making the body more muscular they had to cut back on the posability so don’t expect him to be busting out yoga moves or owt. He can still  be posed in some cool ass poses though so don’t let that deter you

Billy comes with an array of accessories and weapons. Some are in the movie, some aren’t..

His accessories include woodlands camouflage boonie hat & pants, trouser belt with machete sheath, jungle boots, nomex aviator gloves, flak vest, the pistol belt with the shoulder holster is attached to the H type suspenders with the combat knife sheath made to look ‘taped’ to it. Utility/Ammo pouch able to store the Grenade, compass pouch & harness. 2 water canteens with covers, stand with Predator logo on the base and his pouch necklace, crazy that they even thought about this accessory. The pouch necklace is part of the Native American tradition, you can see Billy touching it when he senses the Predator. On more than one occasion during the film Billy feels the presence of the Predator & becomes spooked. At the end the Predator mimics Billys laughter as it activates it’s self disrupt mechanism. Pretty cool & i guess abit spooky too

Moving onto the weapons. There is the M16 with a 12-gauge Shotty underslung below the barrel, featuring a removable magazine & opening dust cover. A machete & Combat Knife that both come with sheathes. A M67 hand Grenade & last but not least an M1911A1 handgun which also features a removable magazine. One thing - neither Billy or Dutch actually use this handgun in the film, they use Desert Eagles, something i think Hot Toys should have noticed. If your going to put as much detail into a figure as Hot Toys does you at least make sure your shit is right. Don’t get me wrong it doesn’t take away from the figure in the slightest but if they can remember the pouch necklace then surely they should have got the handgun right?

Right so now i wanna make a note on the head sculpt. Nobody remembers Billy being blonde right? or wearing that amount of heavy face camo. That’s because he didn’t, in the film he actually wore little to no face paint and his hair was black/brown - whatever. It definitely wasn’t blonde. Word in the jungle of Guatemala is that Sonny Landham (the fella who plays Billy) did not give permission for his likeness to be used. Bummer eh? My guess is due to the lack if financial compensation from Hot Toys meant he just didn’t see the point, which sucks because as we all know that yeah these are wicked figures, but without without the likeness then these are just almost perfect figures. That being said the head sculpt is good, it does look just like him. It would just have been nice for him to have had the right colour hair etc but you can’t win them all, eh Hot Toys?

Can be picked up off eBay HERE for about £250-£300 ($350-$400)

PLANET OF THE APES - GENERAL URSUS (MMS 87)
HOT TOYS MOVIE MASTERPIECE SERIES SIXTH SCALE ACTION FIGURE

General Ursus is the first of three 12 inch figures produced by Hot Toys for the Planet of The Apes Movie Masterpiece Series they Released early 2009. Retailing at $124.99 this was sure to have got any POTA fan itchy under the foreskin. Sideshow Toys released a General Ursus here in November 2008 which they were very proud of & rightly so. At the time they were considered the best 1:6 scale POTA figures on the market, vast improvements on it’s Hasbro predecessors. Now it was the turn of Hot Toys to waltz in & leave even Sideshow in awe. To be fair though, if it wasn’t for Sideshow acquiring the license in the first place Hot Toys would never have been able to make these, not to mention the Sideshow figures were a year earlier & third of the price. It’s like comparing apples & oranges, you just can’t. One thing thats certain is that these are a huge upgrade from the SS originals & a great addition to any collection

General Ursus is fully articulated with over 32 points of articulation & features a truly authentic character likeness to the film. Not only that but he comes complete with maroon trousers & shirt, both made out of fabric. Highly detailed armour including the cuirass, shoulder cauldrons & gauntlets. Removable helmet, black boots, 2 sets of interchangeable hands, Rifle with removable magazine, Handgun & of course the stand with the POTA logo & General Ursus nameplate

The thing that really makes this figure is the ape like fur. For me this is the highlight of the figure, what makes it better than the rest other than being the newest. Sure it’s extremely detailed & yes they have got the little things like costume colour down but it’s the hair that makes it stand out. If you want a POTA General Ursus Sixth Scale Figure then this is your ape

Picked up from eBay HERE for around £200-£250 (£300-$400)

AKIRA - KANEDA SHATORO’S BIKE
PROJECT BM! SIXTH SCALE DIE CAST REPLICA

Medicom & Bandai bring you the very cool Project BM! 1:6 scale Die Cast replica of Kaneda’s bike from the critically acclaimed manga AKIRA

First of all let me say this is SO sick. Measuring 6.5” tall X 19.5” wide it’s massive, extremely detailed & comes with all kinds of cool features, no stone was left unturned on this they really went all out. I was honestly blown away with the quality & thought that went into this considering it is just a bike replica after all, but then you come to realise that it isn’t just any normal ‘replica’. It’s everything you could have wanted & so much more

The Bike was created under Otomo’s direct supervision, this probably explains why there is simply nothing wrong with it. Developed from die-cast metal this collectors gem comes with some very cool features. I’m going to start with the snazzy LED light-up features, the front and back wheels light up green, head lights, tail lights, indicators & dashboard all light up too. By the way the headlights can be adjusted to move up and down & the front can be raised & lowered to simulate park & drive modes…. it even has full workable suspension with the magic of 4 AA batteries. If all that hasn’t made you wet yet.. it also has sound effects.. Ohh yes there’s the engine start, rev, tires, drift, drive, pretty much every sound effect the bike would make

The limited edition version comes with the bonus Clean Cowling & the Decal set. The cowling can be removed to reveal the suspension, head light & dashboard. You get 2 cowlings, one with decals already on & the other is clean with a decal set for you to stick on if you wish. All the decals are ones seen in the manga

Now i know what your thinking - Holy Tits.. cuz that’s exactly what i thought when i first came across this. It really is as good as i’ve made it out to be & if you a true AKIRA fan or an avid Collector then you’re going to want to have this in your collection. Shit, even if you don’t like AKIRA you should buy it just for the simple fact that it will help you level up in life

Bike will set you back around £400-600 ($700-$900) Can be picked up from eBay HERE

AKIRA - TETSUO SHIMA
PROJECT BM! SIXTH SCALE ACTION FIGURE

June 2010 saw Medicom Toys launch the Project BM! Sixth Scale Tetsuo Shima figure from Katsuhiro Otomo’s acclaimed 1982 Manga AKIRA. Retailing at $199.99 Tetsuo is one of two 1:6 scale figures released by project BM, they also released Tetsuo’s best mate/all round cool dude Shotaro Kaneda which i covered in an earlier post here

Tetsuo stands 12 inches tall & features Medicoms RAH330 body & is fully articulated for maximum posability, he can perform literally and pose you can imagine, it’s pretty cool. Wearing movie accurate real fabric clothes that includes his trousers, sleeveless T-Shirt & his boots which are made out of some kinda special fabric, helps with posability & gives an authentic feel. Finished off by his iconic damaged red cape. the cool thing about this is it features a fine wire running through it to recreate the wind blowing his cape, another clever detail

Featuring 2 interchangeable heads, one with a slightly villainous smirk & the additional head is the ‘post awakening’ screaming head. There are 2 sets of interchangeable hands as well. 1 pair of clenched fists & 1 pair of open palmed hands. What i am glad they featured (which i don’t think they could have really missed out) is the fucked up arm he replaces with his own when the satellite blows it off. Not really gonna call it a robotic arm because it’s just made up out of bits of metal, wires etc and held together by his mind, the crazy bastard! They did a really good job the arm looks sweet, one of the highlights of the figure if not the highlight. Last but not least is the special figure stand

If you are an AKIRA fan then this is definitely the cream of the crop as far as 1:6 scale figures go. Can be picked up from eBay HERE for anywhere between £90-£150, which is pretty good in comparison to some of the Hot Toys prices

PREDATOR - MAJOR ALAN ‘DUTCH’ SCHAEFER (MMS72)
HOT TOYS MOVIE MASTERPIECE SERIES SIXTH SCALE ACTION FIGURE
SIDESHOW COLLECTABLES EXCLUSIVE

In February 2009 Hot Toys released Major Alan ‘Dutch’ Schaefer. The 1:6 scale figure was  part of their movie masterpiece series & retailed for $149.99 on the sideshow website

This is the sideshow exclusive version of Dutch which includes the additional interchangeable Head with Headset which is was not available in the standard figure

One of 3 released from the 1987 film Predator & features a likeness of Arnie that no other figure has yet to replicate, they even out-did themselves. The likeness is the most impressive thing they really nailed it. The camouflage face paint tops it off

On the sideshow website it did state that this figure features over 21 points of articulation however it comes with some kinda manual thing that notes the muscular body used on Dutch is not as articulated as other bodies. It highlights the do’s & dont’s as far as posing the figure goes so be warned. Don’t be a bozo & read the manual otherwise it’s gonna cost ya

One thing that has let me down is the jacket design, it doesn’t sit right & makes it look too much like a figure. I would just display him with the assault vest like in the film. Apart from the jacket being shit the rest of the costume is cool, camo tank top with matching camo cargo pants, jungle boots, trouser belt, pistol belt with drop holster & 2 knife sheathes

Dutch comes with weapons & accessories that can all be seen in the film. The M16 assault rifle with mounted M203 grenade launcher. The front sight can be positioned on the M203, the dust cover is moveable on the M16. It comes with a removable magazine. The Colt M1911A1 pistol with removable magazine. 2 grenades, combat knife, machete, a cigar & finally the stand with the Predator logo

the additional exclusive Head with headset is featured in the film when dutch is being dropped off into the jungle via the chopper

Pretty hard to find as people don’t really wanna part ways with them, can be picked up from eBay HERE but gonna set you back £400-£450 ($550-$650)
